SOLAR POWER FOR CONSTRUCTION SITES

Every construction site needs power from the first day of work, often long before a utility line reaches the property. Solar power for construction sites fills that gap without fuel deliveries or engine noise. SolarSet builds complete off-grid solar power systems at our factory in Center, Colorado, and delivers them tested and ready to run a job site’s tools, trailers, lighting and security equipment.

Power Systems for Construction Sites

Factory Built

Every system is assembled, wired and tested at our Colorado factory. Panels, inverter, charge control and, where the setup includes it, battery storage arrive mounted on a steel frame, so there is nothing to assemble on site.

Off-Grid Power

A site with no utility service needs a system that runs independently. An off-grid SolarSet system charges its battery bank during the day and supplies standard 120 or 240 volt power to the site, day and night.

No Fuel Deliveries

A fuel generator depends on fuel deliveries, refueling and engine service. A solar power system runs on stored sunlight, so there is no fuel to haul in and no exhaust near the work.

Construction Site Power Systems from SolarSet

Temporary power for a construction site usually comes from a temporary utility service, a fuel generator or on-site solar energy. Of those construction temporary power solutions, solar is the renewable energy option, and it suits the sites the other two serve poorly: remote ground, long builds and locations where every fuel delivery means a long drive.

What a Construction Site Needs to Run

Construction site electricity covers far more than power tools. Site trailers and offices need lighting, heating and computers. Compressors, pumps and battery chargers run throughout the working day, and security cameras and lighting continue after the crew leaves. Together those loads make up the construction site power supply, and their combined total determines the size of system the site requires.

Solar Compared to a Fuel Generator

The construction industry has relied on the power generator for temporary jobsite power for decades. A generator delivers plenty of power on demand, but it needs fuel on schedule, engine maintenance and a running engine whenever anything is switched on. A solar power system works differently. Panels charge the battery bank during daylight, and the inverter draws on that stored energy as the site needs it. Heavy loads such as large welders increase the size of system required, which is why sizing comes first.

Choosing a Configuration

Most construction sites have no utility service, which makes the choice simple.

Off-Grid

An off-grid system has no grid connection and runs the site independently, the setup for any site the power lines do not reach. Where the finished property will also be off the grid, the same system can stay in place and supply it once construction ends.

Hybrid

A hybrid system connects to the utility and keeps its own battery storage. It fits a site that has service but cannot depend on it, because the batteries keep tools and trailers running whenever the utility drops out.

Sizing the System

Job site power needs vary widely, and sizing follows the load. List the equipment that has to run and what each item draws, then decide how many hours the site operates and how long it must run without sun. Our sizing walkthrough explains the calculation, or send us the list and we will work through it with you.

Delivery and Site Requirements

Delivery is free and curbside within 300 road miles of our factory, and systems ship anywhere in North America beyond that. Curbside assumes a usable driveway or lot connected to a well maintained public road, with you or a representative there to accept the system. Unloading on public property requires written permission from the authority having jurisdiction. Setting the unit in place and anchoring it are separate services, offered in select areas only and priced case by case; elsewhere, your own contractor handles placement.

Tell Us About the Site

Send us the location, the equipment you need to run and how long the build will last. We will tell you which configurations fits, what delivery involves and what happens when the truck arrives. Contact us today to get started.
