A grid tie solar system runs alongside the utility grid rather than replacing it. The solar panels produce power, the inverter converts it to AC, and the building uses that power first. When the array makes more than the building needs, the surplus flows out to the grid. When it makes less, the grid covers the difference. There is no battery, so nothing is held on site.
One consequence is worth stating plainly: grid tie systems shut down during power outages. That is a safety requirement called anti-islanding, and it stops your array energising lines that utility crews may be working on.
