What Comes With a SolarSet Off Grid Solar System

Every off grid solar system SolarSet builds contains the same four elements, sized together as one unit:

  • Solar panels – the array that turns sunlight into DC power, carried on a ground-mount frame rather than a roof.
  • Lithium batteries – 5.1 kWh modules at 48 volts, stacked to the storage capacity the system calls for.
  • Inverter – converts stored DC power into the 120 V or 240 V AC that household appliances and site equipment run on.
  • Frame and wiring – the mounting structure, racking and interconnections, already built and terminated.

Because those four are engineered as a set, the array, the storage and the inverter are matched to one another before the system leaves the building.

Factory-Built, Not Assembled on Site

Most off grid solar sold online is a kit: a pallet of parts shipped to an address for someone else to design around, mount, wire, and commission. SolarSet works the other way. The solar panel system is assembled, wired and tested at the factory, transported to the site as a finished unit, and set on its foundation.

That matters in three ways. Time – a pre-assembled solar power system goes from delivery to producing power far quicker than an array built up piece by piece on site. Accountability – one manufacturer engineered the whole system, so there is no sorting out which supplier owns a problem. And repeatability – every unit of a given model is built to the same drawing, so the specification you read is the system that arrives.

Where Off Grid Solar Makes Sense

Off grid means no utility connection at all – the system is the only power source on the property that suits a specific set of situations.

Homes and Cabins Past the End of the Line

When the nearest service drop is a mile away, extending the utility line can cost more than the solar power system itself. An off grid system takes that extension out of the budget entirely.

Farms, Ranches and Stock Water

Stock tanks, shops, and outbuildings are often spread across ground the grid never reached. A ground-mounted off grid solar system can sit where the load is instead of where the wire ends.

Construction and Remote Work Sites

Sites that need power before permanent service exists can run on a solar system rather than a fuel generator, with no refueling schedule and no engine to service.

Communications and Monitoring Equipment

Repeaters, towers and monitoring stations need power that holds up when nobody is on site for weeks. The Telecommunications page covers the equipment-specific detail.

Seasonal and Secondary Properties

Cabins, camps and secondary buildings used part of the year still need a full solar panel system while they are occupied. Sizing follows the load during use, not the annual average.

Sizing an Off Grid Solar System

Three numbers decide the size of an off grid solar system, and each one sizes a different part of it:

  • Daily energy use, in kilowatt-hours, sets how many solar panels you need.
  • Overnight and low-sun energy use sets how much battery capacity you need.
  • Peak simultaneous demand – the largest combination of loads running at once – sets the inverter.

A property that uses little energy overall but starts a large well pump needs a bigger inverter than its daily total suggests. One with a steady round-the-clock draw needs more storage than one using most of its power in daylight. Available sunlight at the site shifts the panel count as well. The systems on this page are grouped by panel count so the array, the storage and the inverter scale together.

What Off Grid Solar Systems Cost

Every system on this page shows its MSRP, and that price moves with the battery and inverter combination rather than the panel array alone – which is why several models come in more than one version. Because SolarSet builds to a standard drawing, a given model is a fixed configuration at a fixed price. Costs outside the system itself, such as the foundation and site preparation, depend on the property.

Off Grid, Grid Tie or Hybrid

Off grid is one of three configurations SolarSet builds, and which one fits depends on whether utility power is available at the site.

  • Off grid – no utility connection. Panels and batteries are the only power source.
  • Grid tie – a utility connection and no batteries. The array offsets consumption while the grid is up.
  • Hybrid – both. The system works alongside the utility and carries the load when the grid goes down.

If there is already a meter on the property, a hybrid or grid tie system is usually the closer match. If there is no service and no practical way to get it, off grid is the configuration built for that.

Common Questions About Off Grid Solar

Can an off grid solar system run a normal house?

Yes, within the size chosen. Household appliances run on standard 120 V or 240 V AC from the inverter. Large simultaneous loads – electric heat, well pumps, welders – drive the sizing more than the number of appliances does.

What happens after several cloudy days?

Battery capacity carries the load through low-sun periods. Systems meant to run through extended weather are sized with more storage – which is why the same panel count comes with different battery configurations.

Are the solar panels mounted on the roof?

No. SolarSet systems are ground-mounted on their own frame, which is what allows the whole solar panel system to be assembled before it reaches the site.

How long do the batteries last?

SolarSet uses lithium batteries for their cycle life and low maintenance. Figures for a specific model are on its data sheet, linked from each system above.

How do I know which size I need?

Start with your daily kilowatt-hours and your single largest load – those two numbers narrow the list quickly.

Every system on this page includes a data sheet, a physical drawing and an electrical drawing. If you would rather talk it through, send your daily energy use and your largest single load and we will point you to the systems that fit.
