Three thing happen, in order. The solar panels produce power, and the building uses it first. Any solar energy left over charges the battery storage. Once the batteries are full, the surplus flows out to the utility grid.
After dark the order reverses. The building draws from the batteries. When the batteries run low, the grid takes over.
The part that matters most happens during a power outage. A grid tie system shuts itself off when the grid goes dark. A hybrid system does not. It disconnects from the utility, then carries on supplying the buildling from its batteries and panels until the grid comes back.

Each family comes in two or three versions. The panel count stays the same across them. What changes is how much battery storage you get and how large the inverter is.
This is the number most buyers overlook. A hybrid inverter has a pass-through rating, and that rating decides how much of the building it can carry while the grid is down.
SolarSet hybrid systems are built at 50 A, 100 A, and 200 A pass through, depending on the model. A 50 A system cover essential circuits – lights, a refrigerator, a well pump, controls. A 200 A system can carry a full service.
So two properties with the same daily energy use can need different systems. The questions is not only how much power you use in a day. It is how much has to stay on at the same moment when the grid drops.

Frequency matters as much as consequence. If the power goes out twice a year for an hour, storage is hard to justify. If it goes out for a day every winter, the calculation is different.

Hybrid sits between the other two on price. It costs more than grid tie because of the batteries are and the larger inverter. It costs slightly less than the matching off grid system, because it does not have to cary the property on its own.
That depends on the storage you choose and on what you keep running. A system with 20.4 kWh of storage carrying a few essential circuits lasts far longer than the same storage carrying a whole property. Each data sheet lists the storage capacity for that model.
Yes, and this is the real difference between a hybrid system and a generator. While the sun is up the array keeps refilling the batteries. A multi-day outage is not a countdown to empty.
No. A generator needs fuel, starts once the power has already failed, an runs only while you keep feeding it. A hybrid system is running every day anyway, switches over with nobody present, and recharges itself from the sun.
